Obviously a stretch of the imagination. Keep in mind this is from NASA, who is probably just making this up to have any buzz at all about space and its exploration, which doesn't really mean anything.

I think the study of space is intriguing, but I've had a hard time justifying the money and resources spent on sending out drones and manned spacecraft when we have such powerful telescopes that could tell us the same thing for much less effort. the question is: has any scientific knowledge about space been uncovered from these expeditions that couldn't have been obtained from just using telescopes? I admittedly have not done extensive research on this so don't interpret this as a conclusion.

they usually have instruments and such that measure atmospheric conditions.

also telescopes are obfuscated by our atmosphere as well as pollution.

space telescopes are spending more time looking at deep space and they also have limited time to take pictures anyway


so yeah sending things into space is definitely worth it. all of the money is spent here and people use it on Earth. the only thing we are actually expending is the resources used, which are usually used for less important things like solar panels

Why can't people think of a way of putting a solar panel system on a car for when we inevitably run out of petrol. Yeah, hybrids and electric cars and all that, but I want solar panels.

solar panels barely generate enough electricity for a house when its sunny.

how is solar energy going to push a 3 ton vehicle?

Well that's where the big engineers and scientists come in to figure that out Dave, I'm just the layperson who wants to avoid riding my bike everywhere when the gas crisis comes to rear its ugly head. I won't be caught trying to go to work and have to ride up Suicide Mountain just to get there on a bike.
