Are you a gamer?

Postby davepoobond » Thu Jan 08, 2015 1:28 am

Do you consider yourself a "gamer"?

I would consider myself as one, but I find it really hard to associate myself with the culture. I just like playing games, I don't really like "being a nerd" about it. I equate it to the same as movies/music/TV in my mind and I tend to go in waves between the three things that I am interested in.

does being a gamer mean constantly trying to find something to complain about in every game, searching for reasons to be offended, and claiming anything under 1080p/60fps is "unplayable"?

I play metal gear games, and will sometimes buy other games to keep me busy until more metal gear games come out

i think being a gamer essentially means you are prescribing to the culture and any affront to it is an affront to yourself. you can't take criticism of the medium because it is so ingrained into your personal being that criticizing it is criticizing you at the same time. because why would you like something like that if it is criticized

i feel like most people who are crazy about themselves being a gamer feel like they still need to justify that their interests in games is not "a waste of time" any more than movies and music might be.

for me, i dont feel embarrassed "admitting" that i play games but I'm not going around flaunting it and wearing super mario shirts just to show people "hey i'm a gamer." That's why I am super against most gaming clothing/accessories, and would only wear one if it was abstract enough that it could be anything.

and yeah, I agree about the clothes.

Would only wear them if they had something abstract and were cool

I wear super mario shirts. I also wear mickey shirts. Really I don't see it any sillier than wearing a player's jersey. I enjoy what I enjoy. I'm too old to care what people wear. I stopped going to high school ages ago.

But am I a gamer? I dunno if I fit into that anymore. None of the AAA games interest me in the least. I mainly just enjoy Nintendo games, love playing them with the kids. I used to be a huge FF fan but after 13 I'm holding back to see if FFXV is worth the hype.

pajamas are super comfy, but not fit for public places.

bball shorts are super comfy, but show too much junk bulge for a classy joint like Wal-Mart

combining the two makes a super comfy and socially acceptable outfit

i consider myself a gamer in the traditional sense. as in, i enjoy video games of all different types but in general try to avoid people who label themselves "gamer," like the guys with skinny jeans and pink hair, or the peeps who had bioware changing the ending to mass effect 3 because "they deserved better" or whatever.

basically i realize that video games are a luxury and consider myself lucky to even get to play good ones instead of feeling overly entitled to complain about every little problem i have with every game as if it were made to please me and me alone.
